I understood the Pentax K20D had IS that compensated for motion in vertical, horizontal and rotational directions. Forgive me for yawning.

How is this any different than the typical camera shake and panning mode?

I know Nikon has a "regular" and "active" mode on their VR systems. "Active" doesn't mean panning like Canons Mode 2. "Active" is meant to be used if you are in the back of a boat, or riding along in a bumpy car where there is a jarring force that moves you and the camera.

Is this new technology just an adaptation of that mode?
