    New Sony's Leaked: A500, A550, and A850

Some info and lots of speculation here:
    http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2009/0...0-550-and-850/

I say the new A850, mini full-frame will be quite exciting!

    To sum up:

The most expected and demanded features are -

    * Live View off Sensor, together with HD Video capture
    * A new sensor to compete with either the Canon APS-C 15+ megapixel, or Nikon full frame 12+ megapixel
    * Better high ISO performance, higher maximum ISO
    * Onboard GPS location tracking and metadata embedding (RAW and JPEG alike)
    * Wireless data transmission either onboard or via power grip
    * Faster maximum shooting rate (over 5fps) expected in 850
    * Dust, moisture, shower and generally environmental sealing improvements
    * Onboard flash with better command functions for wireless remotes
    * A more complex AF module with better tracking
    * AF tuning function as found in the A900, or improved
    * Improved exposure accuracy, white balance, etc

When the new cameras are finally announced, you can tick this list and see how well Sony didů

i'm still waiting on the a700s v5.1 that that ahole on flicker promised me!

hopefully the a850 is a mini FF under 2k.

I guess I'm just a little more than confused with it not being the A750. There is no A800 to improve on, last time I checked.

    Hmmm, strange.

The A850 will be a mini full frame, hence the -50 from the 900.

And I believe the 500 series will be more of a replacement for the A700/100 line.

i get where the a850 fits in, sub 2k will be a good move if it performs. dont see how this will work alongside the a900 though. are they gonna halve the pixel count ? no video ? i dont get it. if they use the same 24mp sensor and add video then why would anyone buy an a900 ?

i dont quite get how the new models fit into the product line either. sony just released a whole bunch of refreshes didnt they ? are they all now gone or are these new models in addition ?

those were spring into bodies. rumour is that there will be a few more mid-range bodies in the fall.

all i want is a replacement camera that will take the same grip ad the a700. FF would be a plus.
only cause the vertical grip brand new is ridiculously priced!

    Question α900 "lite"

If this is an α900 "lite" ... then they probably should have gone up (+30), not down, with an α930 ,,, in accordance with the "backtrack" & "dumbing-down" effort we witnessed amongst the α200, α300, α350 α230, α330, α380

    We went from this ...

So it could be more easily stuffed in your shirt-pocket or something, like a P&S? Go right ahead and stick a SONY AF 70-400mm G SSM lens on this ... and "getta grip." I've already seen the end of this story with the Canon Rebel XT and it was not pretty. What's worse is there is NO vertical grip for the A+30 series. So this story would seem ... if it were possible → actually going from bad to worse.

    Like I said ... I am corn--fused

INTO THE UNKNOWN ... and Beyond?

The 500 series (odd naming, I know) would be more of an upgrade to the previous 300/200 owners I believe. It'll be their aps-c semi-pro line since the A700 is now discontinued. I'm sure one of these will definitely have a movie mode. Probably the 550?

The 850 (800 series) will probably have a lower pixel count and sit under the a900 as an affordable FF camera.

It wouldn't make sense for them to name it A930 since it I doubt it would be above the a900 in features and certainly not in price. Assuming the a900 is top of the line for now, you could liken it to the relationship between the d3x top of the line, and d700 budget full frame, which is still an incredible camera in its own right. Maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but that's how I see it.

But hey, the new models tell you you have "Steady Shot" inside. Gee, how would I have ever known if the camera didn't say it right there on the front. ...

Oh, that's right, as your AX30 with the Tammy 70-200 slips out of your hand because you can't get a grip on it ... and as the camera rotates you can see that it has "Steady Shot" inside just before hitting the ground .
