Digital Video Camera NV-GS57GC and SD card error

I knew that this question was answered in many other forums including this one, but I could not find something related to my issue.

Recenlt I bought microSD HC 8 GB with its SD adapter to use it with Panasonic Digital Video Camera model : NV-GS57GC, when i inserted the card I received card error message.

But when I used (testing purpose) the SD adapter above on my Samsung Camera it works.

And when I read the manual for Panasonic model : NV-GS57GC it says :
Do not format the card with another movie camera or any personal computer. This operation may make the card unusable
Do I need to use special software for formatting ?

    http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...formatter.html

Although I could not find in Panasonic Digital Video Camera NV-GS57GC an option for formatting!!!

If SD card did work on Smasung and did not work on Panasonic ,,,Wouldn't that indicat there is no rpoblem with SD card memory itself ?

I did find that option under "Card PlayBack Mode" , Menu >> Set [ADVANCED] >> [FORMAT CARD] >> [YES].

But still it gives me error message

    Curly one...

Have you tried (re)formatting the card using your PC and a card reader? And then doing the Menu >> Set [ADVANCED] >> [FORMAT CARD] >> [YES] procedure?

Personally, I'm thinking the advisory "Do not format the card with another movie camera or any personal computer. This operation may make the card unusable." is incorrect, without the rider in this camera.

Are you sure the camera can support an 8GB SD card? I ask because 8GB cards (or larger) can only be formatted with a FAT32 file system.

Also can you let us know the brand of card, and whether you bought it from a reputable source, (not eBay!)

    Cheers

Does the video camera (BTW, this is a still camera site) support SDHC? They may look the same as SD cards but since they use a different file system they aren't supported by all cameras.

Wow, you weren't kidding that you posted this question to many other forums. I did a quick Google search and your questions was 6 of the top 10 hits. You're a busy guy.

It looks like the camera doesn't support SDHC, if I read the reviews correctly. So you're limited to 2G cards and they need to be SD cards, not SDHC.

Yes David, I did, as you know all people in any forum they are vlounteer , and they might be busy for a while and I can not get an answer quickly.

Since I bought the SD from ebay and I though might be the problem with the SD card therefore I was looking to return it to the seller.

It may be the case , because when I used other SD (from my samsung camera) and it is 2 GB it worked, without any problem

SD are limited to 2G. (There are some 4G SD cards but I wouldn't trust them.) If it's bigger than 2G it is SDHC.

SDHC go up to 32G right now, and may be getting bigger soon.

I googled out of curiosity and was amazed to see the same too.

Zillah, how old is the Panasonic NV-GS57GC? That was my initial curiosity. HCSD might be a later invention than the GS57 as you have already found out.
