    Exclamation HD P&S Camera?

    Greetings,

I'm going to Lebanon in July for 2.5 weeks and need a real deal, but affordable camera. You know, the air flight pretty much drained the bank

I started off searching for a point/shoot digital camera (compact) on Buzzillions and Amazon. Then I decided it would be nice to have an HD/720p video recording camera, but not camcorder. I want to keep the quality high and the compact size there still.

This is what I got (some are not HD after all)

    HD capable:
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5A
    Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500S
Flip MinoHD (camcorder, not P&S but very impressive)
Canon's PowerShot TX1 (mini camcorder, impressive size)

    Not HD:
    Canon Powershot SD1100 IS
    Casio Exilim EX-Z1200

    Any thoughts?

What price are you looking for and what features do you want?

I'm hoping to stay under $300.

I'd like HD (720p), image stabilizer at least and good quality photos overall, even at night.

    I did this search:

The Samsung SL820 looks interesting. Any thoughts on this?

You're not going to get good night shots out of a compact camera (at least, not any I've seen with an HD mode and in your price range), but otherwise any of the cameras you listed would probably suit you fine. If you're willing to go to a more standard movie mode, the Fuji F100fd will probably have the best low-light capability in your price range.

My personal opinion would be Panasonic or Canon (I don't really trust Samsung's colors and I don't have any experience with Casio).

As for the TX1, if you're interested I would really attempt to find one and play with it for a bit. It is a really, really uncomfortable camera to handle and use.
