    Unhappy SONY Glass prices climb

    Well, if you didn't get your glass back in December 2008, during the limited discounts ... it is going the wrong way, now.

    On average, nearly everything is now up $20-$100 than March 31st, 2009, as the dollar declines in value. Definitely "INFLATION", because the product certainly did not get any better.

    The one outstanding exception is the CZ 24-70mm f/2.8, which dropped $150.

    I guess if you are out of work, due to the economy, you can afford higher priced glass. Sure, why not?

    Oh yeah, the α900 dropped $300, too. So, if you wanted a new camera and killer lens to go with it ... the α900 and CZ 24-70 f/2.8 ... the total is $450 less, now. Give some to get some ...

    At least the glass in your bag is probably worth .. more?

    Was going to post regarding this. SAL2470Z actually only dropped $150 I believe. $1749 to $1599.

    everything else pretty much went up (300/2.8 is outrageous, still).

    Are they trying to sell lenses or what?

    I believe their marketing effort is looking a little brutal. Taking some of the already "over-priced" glass up another notch seems ludicrous. It won't be my money paying for it. If I didn't have their lens in my bag by now ...

    Sean, don't let the higher prices frighten you ... it could have been worse. I believe TAMRON is also performing a price hike ... B&H Video has upped it about $20-$30 on several lenses.

    Nikon (and I believe Canon) have also been upping prices. The Nikon 70-200mm used to be had for I think $1300 or even less.

    I guess with the weakening dollar (yet slow economy) they feel the need to raise prices, quite absurd.

    Oh well, at least the 24-70mm is more in reach!

    If they lop another $200 ... I could see myself "popping" for one.

    Still got a ways to go on that A900, though. $2000 is my threshold.

    Well it's already $100 less than Nikon's, shocking. Although 4 years less warranty.

    To match Canon (~$1300) it still has a few hundred left to go

    I don't really see it dropping anytime soon. If anything, in time, it might even go back up.

    Ebb and flow they say, who knows what will happen next. I had been thinking about selling my Minolta 70-210 f/3.5 - 4.5 and the Tokina 28 -70, and maybe maybe even my gasp! beloved Tamron 70-300 to put towards my camera fund, I really need to get around to buying a flash! but of course am looking at the Tamron 28-70 f/2.8 so I would have a 'fast trio' ah well just another thing to ponder.

    With the 17-50/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 I don't feel that I would need a 28-75/2.8.

    What's 25mm going to hurt, nothing that can't be fixed with a few steps forward or slightly cropped really.

    I'd sell 70-210, 28-70, and 70-300 (hopes mine sells soon).
