Felt like the 40D to me? A bit too chunky for my liking and the buttons just aren't in any seemingly intuitive spot. Take for example the power button in the bottom middle, just not a "home row" key as it may be. At least with the Nikon and Sony it's always at hand.

And locking and unlocking that wheel is kinda wierd. I don't really get that.

On the nikon, I'm still not sure what that index finger button on the corner (sliding one) does, lol I'm sure Rooz could share about the ins and outs of the Nikon system.

locking/ unlocking the wheel is to either lock your focus point in one spot or be able to change active AF points using the keypad without removing your eyes from the VF. i thought sony operated the same way ?? i dont know how else you could do that ?

the only thing i'm aware of at the index finger, top right corner, is the power button which also acts as a manual activation of the top LCD light. so if you push it to the right, the LCD light illuminates after it has entered standby mode.

huh. Sony doesn't actually have a focus hold on the camera, other than holding half way down on the shutter button (unless it's built into the lens as focus hold, like on my 100mm macro). To change AF points, you use the directional pad arrows on the back to get where you want to go (can all be done while looking through VF, lights up on VF).

the a700 has a focus lock. Haven't used it yet.

same as the nikon. it doesnt hold the AF, it locks the point so you cant move the point wit hteh directional pad.

canon bodies have the wheel. nikon use the pad. i originally hated the wheel but i'm getting used to it now and i quite like it actually.

The A300 finally sold today. After dealing with many scammers on Craigslist, I finally got a buyer. Really nice lady, who was excited to get into photography. I was happy to sell it to her instead of some jerk, and I even sent her a link to come visit you guys.

I was planning on ordering a refurb 40D from Adorama, but they were out of the 28-135 kit. I had no plans of buying something today, but I swung by one of the local camera shops, and they had a used 40D in great shape. After a 2 year Mack warranty (which hopefully is good) and tax, I spent $715.

So far I love it. It has a great weight and feel in the hand, and it is quite responsive. I'm debating keeping the Rebel XS for backup, or selling it for glass.

Sold the SAL75-300 and battery grip on Craigslist, and the 50mm on flea-bay. Still trying to sell the 28-85 and 70-210. Gotta use that money towards a telephoto.

I may hang onto the Maxxum 5000 and the 35-70 for sentimental reasons.

i was lucky enough to sell my a300 within 24 hours. no such luck on the grip though.
getting many scammers from Nigeria on it.
