Yes. I remember we all used to use our Metz 45s and Metz 60s on full blast, simply dialling in a different aperture for different distances. I used to run the calculation in my head of the distance in meters on the lens and the flash guide number to give me the aperture.

You are wrong. It is a style. If it's a good style is another question though.

OK if you consider incompetence a style then yes direct flash craptasticism is also a style.

IMHO it just goes to show that sometimes it really is better to let the camera do the thinking.
    Ouch.

    Lol... "Weegee"...

There is no such thing as a "Weegee". There are photographers that use flashes. That is all. There are photographers that over-use flashes. That's for sure and I suspect Weegee is one of them.

Rather than copying somebody else's style, Rhys, why not create your own?

I never claimed to be Weegee. I was simply disputing your implication that everybody that used direct flash was incompetent.

I didn't imply that at all. I too use direct flash as necessary. However, this being the 21st century and the digital age, we're not stuck with one usable ISO. We can go above ISO100 and open up wider than f/8.
