cold effect

Yesterday at night with the temperature at about 6'C outside my camera command dial(the one behind the shutter button) stopped working while I was in the London Eye....I switched the camera off and switched it back on but still it did not work....then I popped the batteries out, rubbed them against my jeans and popped them back. The dial started working again. But do note, the battery meter showed that my batteries were full before and after i.e had enough juice in it to let me use all the other functions (plus I had only taken 170 shots that day). So was it the cold effecting the power supply to the dial???

Then after an hour while sitting in the tube (where it isn't very cold) my play button stopped working. Had to switch it off and back on a couple of times to make it work.....

Another problem I found was that while taking pictures in the London eye, one of the pictures showed an error....so i popped the card out...rubbed it against my jeans and popped it back and the picture was fine....though I did change my memory card later just in case as I didn't want to lose my pictures....

I'm just plain paranoid cause even though I want to buy a new camera soon, I just don't want this camera to get spoiled....emotional thing I suppose...

I've been considering buying one too... not sure about it yet though. I also still need a flash unit... i want to upgrade the 70-200 F4 IS to the F2.8 IS... and i'm still trying to decide which to keep- 24-70 or 17-55 :X

So many toys, so little cash!

Have you played with the 50D yet? That screen is amazing and makes me wonder how i ever got by with the 40D's screen :X

Hmmm. I don't really consider 6C to be cold enough to bring on those sort of effects??

6C would definitely drop the battery charge, but not to that extent I wouldn't think (maybe a drop to 400+ shots). When I've fully drained a battery due to the cold in minus temps on the 5D it's shown the battery icon flashing and then the LCD starts to weaken... then she's gone.

6C certainly isn't cold enough to effect a camera. I regularly operate my cameras at -20C.

Perhaps it's not the cold temp, but moisture. Was it raining?
