Take the suggestions here, go back and try it again.

Do not use a DT lens, it will cut your resolution in half. Make sure SSS is enabled. Use an ISO of 400-800, to maintain a good shutter speed in the indoor lighting, steady your shot, aim, and fire. Then come home and look at the results.

I doubt you really need 24 megapixels.

Just get a D700, put a 24-70 f/2.8 on it and be done. You'll be happy you did.

I think you are missing an opportunity with the a900. If you shot with a CZ 16-80mm, you are basically not seeing what the camera can do at all.

By all prior accounts, the viewfinder is way better than others.

I agree with Visual Reality if you do go Nikon... get the D700, not the D3X. The extra megapixels aren't really going to benefit unless you print at tremendous sizes. 4 foot by 6 foot or something. Even if money wasn't an issue, I would prefer a D700 (or D3) over a D3x for the better low light performance, and faster frame per second.

And if you need the resolution, the 5D Mk II or the a900 is that kind of resolution for a much better price.
