Hey Millz, just for fun when you got the time try and crop the image and leave only the reflection in the water then rotate it so its 'right side up' I think the reflected image looks really cool!

this was the other one i focused on the castle i dont no why it got blown out i will work on them when i get home just thought it was cool any ideas how not to get it blown out i can try the photo again settings etc

You can shorten the shutter speed, close the aperture or reduce the ISO. All of these things will darken the image. If you're shooting in an auto mode you can adjust the exposure compensation.

Punctuation is your friend.

You need to watch the bottom reflection, it looks like it got cropped a bit shy of the top. If you can get your hands on a 1/2 ND filter ... I think this would be a great candidate for using it on. Rotate it to reduce the upper castle's intensity, then retake the image ... it'd probably look knock out and sharpen up the real image of the castle, ignoring the reflection!

Millz, this is all about exposure. There's a lot of "dark" in the image so the meter is "fooled" into overexposing (the mirror image is better because of reduced light transmission).
You need about ⅔ stop less exposure.
I'm assuming you're using a tripod.
In Auto mode dial in -0.7 exposure compensation or
In Manual mode select ¼sec at f4.5 or I'd prefer 1sec at f9
If you "bracket" the shot go to ¼sec at f4, or ½sec at f5.6, or 1sec at f8

millz, i'll try and explain why the shot turned out like it did. imo, its just as important to know why it didnt work as it is to finding out what to do next.

when you looked at the scene in real life the reflection was darker than the actual building. what the camera has "seen" as the priority is the reflection, so the camera hs chosen the best possible settings to make sure that the reflection is perfectly exposed. which its done exactly right. as a consequence of that, the brighter part of the image, (the building itself), is slightly overexposed.

so really, your camera didnt do anything wrong, it just exposed the wrong part of the scene for you. you need to tell the camera what to meter for to make sure you get it exactly how you want.

ty all for your help................i will take the suggestions and try the shot again later in the week..........When i saw the images on camera they looked really good but i definitely see what you are saying now,,,,,,,,,,,,and actually its crazy to say but i understand most of this so its amazing what a little time and readind will do..........
