The Sony one is updated with digital coatings and has less flare and other benefits (ADI 7 pins I believe).
I was looking at your pics on flickr... wasn't the old 50 1.4 the built in hood like the 1.7, and 49mm filter.

Yup, those are some changes. All for the better. The new hood is actually useful and the 55mm is more common.

Just looked at dyxum... looks like they did that on the RS. At any rate, both are very useful improvements. I think I'm going to have to pick up some 49-55 ring converters so I can use my CPL on the 35-70 and 50mm.

I agree. Fast focussing, quiet and the wide aperture allows the AF system to lock on quickly.
Those guys were talking about SSM on these lenses. Why would you need it? and why would you want the extra cost?
