    Oh no, I like zooms......

So I was at my mom's place last weekend for a little family get together. I slapped my zoom on the camera set the little bugger to 5.6 threw a flash on there and I was impressed! Then I threw the 35mm 1.4 on there and was shooting, shooting then I tried to zoom... damn this lens can't do that silly.

Pretty sweet IQ on that little kit lens too.

    The prime...

yea, they both have their places. i can't live without my 17-55, though lately since i have the 85 1.8 i don't seem to wanna use the 70-200. i think i'm kinda becoming a prime guy. nah. where's my 70-200 f/1.4 with a shoulder mount?

The DOF on the PRIME shot is a bit too shallow, Nick. Check out that left eye ...

The zoom's DOF is a lot better looking, IMO, especially close.

You just have to watch that aperture and select the right one. When both eyes and, perhaps, the head are in focus, it tends to look crisper. I snapped my dog with an f/1.8 aperture ... his eyes were dead on ... but his snoot and ears were not.

I still get comments about him being out-of-focus. I then point out ... only his head was, not his eyes. Kind of freaks most people out, because they do not understand the plane of focus.

don, the picture freaks people out because it's just weird. it has nothing to do with the plane of focus.

Doesn't matter what camera or lens you use Nick, you still have to wash the kid's face BEFORE shooting the photos!

Yeah they definitely have their places. I've been thinking of selling my 35 for the sigma 30...

Ya shallow DOF is tough to work with and is often overdone.
