    screen protectors

Ok, so I just gifted myself a swank new 50D. Was wondering if I need to buy any expensive accessories to protect it? You know like a leather pouch or plastic screen shield.

No, you do not. I avoid cases with zippers, though. That is my only LCD "guard", now. I had a pop-up shade by Delkin, but it did not help viewing ability much, and I eventually lost the pop-up part in the desert (though one side had fallen off previously)...

I never bother with screen protectors. I did try them and didn't find they did a lot. Heck, my PDA is 5 years old and yes - it has marks on the screen from the stylus but I can still read what's there, very easily. In use, I don't even notice the marks.

Won't say it's a necessity, but I do have Invisible Shield LCD protector film on both my XTi and Pentax WPi. No real issues on either camera and it possibly did prevent a marred screen on the XTi. The WPi goes kayaking with me, so it gets a lot of time in and out of a PFD pocket, the film has done it's job and hasn't come off after numerous dunking in sea water. Is the hyped, somewhat pricey Invisible Shield film any better than the others? Who knows, but I can't complain.

    screen protectors

    1. InvisibleShield – good not great, but slightly expensive.
    2. Purplemoo.com – another ok option, but not very durable.
    3. Daproducts.com – good quality, but very difficult to take off – the material is hard and somewhat semi-permanent.
    4. Navprotector.com – lasts much longer than some of the others and relatively cheaper. I use these guys and am still happy after a good two years.
    Hope this helps 

From what I understand from another forum I am on, Canons (at least the Xsi...probabaly other Canon DSLRs too) already have a screen protector over the LCD...It is what you see now (as the "screen but is actually a cover over the LCD) and can be removed with a suction cup. A factory Canon replacement can be had for around $10.

Never did it myself but read it a few times on the other forum...
