It's just the kit lens for now, but I'd like to buy a beercan in the future. Where is the best place to buy one and how much do they usually run?

Be prepared for the links to the problems with the KIT LENS. It isn't the best lens as you will see. What are you going to be taking pictures of? Then we can give you some advice on different lenses to get.

I take pictures of pretty much everything, but I'd really like a telephoto lens with macro capability.

I was also looking at the Tamron 70-300.

The Tamron 70 300 is the way to go almost everybody here owns one. The other hot lens is the Minolta 50mm f/1.7 you can check ebay and get one for about $100.00. It makes a great portrait lens for low light. This is another lens everybody here has. I see you have the bug and you haven't gotten the camera yet.
