Wow, that was soon! Two hours after the comment above, I showed my wife a cute shot of our kitten on his first day home, and how the 1024 square-pixel demo version of NeatImage cleaned up the shot. She promptly authorized me to buy the real thing. Cheap trick, using kittens that way.. but effective

Photoshop Elements 7? Yep, that's a good deal and a excellent choice for a very good all-in-one solution. A lot of people I know like Corel Paint Shop Pro x2 Ultimate. It's around the same price too. On balance, I would say that people like PSP x2 Ultimate a bit better than PSE 7, but I haven't used either, so I couldn't really say. But whenever anyone asks for the best photo editing program between $60-80, these two are usually the top choices and universally recommended.
As for myself, I use Adobe Lightroom 2.2 for most things and Photoshop CS3 for the more difficult local editing work.

Any input on Lightroom vs Elements? I don't do a heck of a lot of editing, and if I needed to would probably use the Gimp. I am concerned mostly about something to do my importing, sorting, ranking, and then really basic stuff like cropping, adjusting levels a little, and tweaking noise reduction and sharpness. I am currently using Lightroom on a demo, but I think Elements would be a lot cheaper, even with educational discount. I tried the included Sony software and it was too slow on a Mac, and didn't really have all the features I needed.
Is elements pretty good with RAW files and cataloging? Or should I stick with Lightroom?

I have and have been only using the Sony software, but I have elements 6 and lightroom 2.o just sitting on my computer waiting to be used. I also have a old copy of paintshop pro that is at least 5 years old if not more.
