    Little Nervous

So as you all no ive been asking about which lense to get the sony or minolta.Well i found an open box 50mm sony at sony style store and got it for 50% off retail which i thought was a steal. My buddy is picking it up for me now and i should have it tonite to check out. The sony guy from the store was very helpful and said a guy returned it and nothing is wrong. I understand a little risk until i check it out but what all do i need to look for please let me no. Any kind of tests or just take photos and see what happens. I thought hell for that kind of money if i didnt like it i could ebay it and make money.

50mm F/1.4? or F/2.8 Macro? Both are good lenses . I would like the F/1.4 right now for low light lol

How much did you get it for? Sub $200? Sounds like a good deal. How did you find it?

DAMN, I WANT! Any warranty with it? I'd assume the standard 1 year.....

Oh yeah, as for testing. Just shoot some pictures, check sharpness. Check the aperture blades (open and close it with the lever on the mount side). And check for front focus and back focus with 3 batteries in a diagonal line, 1 inch a part (focus on the middle).

Nice work, millz. Get one for dr4gon.
There may be nothing significant in the lens being a returnee. But just in case, you need to check for back/front focus problems. Don's test with the three batteries will tell you what you need to know.
Also do a series of tests at different apertures and compare centre and edge sharpness; in particular check that left and right edges are similar.
Other than that, sloppy focus ring, noisy gearing, not much else.

Damn. Just seen a green dragon.

    Green with envy?

Maybe I should call around. I really want to save up for a 24-70mm (or 70-400mm depending on the reviews) though... :\

Yeah ... an opened box CZ 24-70mm f/2.8 -> 50% off! ... and then, the barn gates burst open and the pigs ... they just all flew away.

Hey for what ever it's worth, a buddy of mine used to go and hit up major reatail outfits that deal in electronics, he would go in like 1 maybe 2 days after Christmas and buy a ton of returned items. people bought the wrong one, it wasn't what they wanted etc. the key was that if it was OPENED even if not used seemed to be 50% off right away. He said the key was that the stores want to move 'holiday' volume before the year end.
