Here is another image I took with the Minolta 50mm. I used PS to correct color and then used curves. Is this any better than the other ones I posted earlier.

I think the curves adjustment is too aggressive for my tastes. Too much shadow detail was crushed.

Your curves adjustment was too agressive and you were bringing the blacks down too far. This can be useful for landscapes, but it is usually bad for people/portraits.

Notice on your edited version his shirt is complete solid black? Its crushed, and I can't even see the creases unless I look at the image from the side (LCD).

If you can see the creases in his shirt and you are looking at your monitor straight on, it is way too bright and I would strongly consider calibration.

I'm in agreement with what's been said although as it's a portrait I was seeing no detail in the eyes and no shadow detail at all in the hair on top of the head.
As the unprocessed version is much better and you wouldn't ruin a good picture on purpose, I'm with Virtual Reality in pointing the finger at the monitor.
Didn't you say somewhere else you had a problem with the colour?

I went to a few sites on monitor calibration. It seems fine according to the two sites I went to. I know the right way is to use a Spyder calibrator. I said I had a color problem because of a reply to one of my posts.
