I learned a lesson the hard way

All this time I have been cropping my images without setting any image size. I went to print a few images today and could not get them to fit on a 8x10. I tried to crop some of the images that I didn't edit yet and I could not even get the whole image down to a 8x10 either. I know there is a way to do it because when I send all my images up to my friend to print he doesn't have a problem printing them. Anybody know how to crop these to fit??

In photoshop after you have cropped or whatever. Go to Image size, set it to bicubic (or whatever is for reducing sizes smoothly). Set in your dimensions (in inches) and you should be good to go.

When I made my 8x10s I let shutterfly's online tool show me how I wanted it cropped. I just uploaded the largest unresized JPEG (so I didn't lose quality).

I did try that in CS but I cannot fit all of the image I want to print in the box. I know it can be done. I just cannot figure it out yet.LOL

In CS, select the rectangular marquee tool. Choose fixed ratio under style and type in 8x10. Drag the rectangular selection tool around the area you want. It will remain a constant 8x10 ratio.

What if you cannot fit all of the image you want in that box. Then what do you do.

Your photo is in a 3x2 aspect ratio. An 10x8 is a 5x4 aspect ratio. To print the "entire" photo on an 8x10, you will have white strips on the top and bottom of the photo. If you do not want the white strips, you will have to crop both/either end of the photo to put it in a 5x4 aspect ratio.

I guess one more option would be to clone(add) more sky to the top of the photo and grass to the bottom of the photo.
