Red face Is this a bit too much?

Trying something new here... do they work for you? Or, are they just too much to handle?

I don't like how you lose his face into the background.

    it doesn't work for me..

maybe a bit more detail in his face and a facial expression more...alive would probably make it better

i like the idea of #2. it looks different. its just not a very good shot to start with. i'd like to see that effect with a better photo. i like how you push the boundaries.

#1 works for me if you crop from in front of the ears forward. The ears and hair up top around there make it too dark and too big a contrast jump for me.

#2 is too pale, almost seems eery like he's passed away.

I really like where your going with them! I'm a total negative space aholic though. The second one would look better with a more serene expression though. Also, the way the hair fades catches my eye right away.

They may not be perfect, but I think the attempts are awesome.

I like the concept- i think it just requires a bit more to perfect it. the second one is a great idea- i just think the eye should be further left in the frame for the crop- less white space to the left and more white space to the right- but that's just my taste.I think an image of the face straight on may look pretty great for the second one...

Thanks for all the inputs guys!

The effect that I was trying to achieve was to make his face blend into the white background. The first shot is how it came out from the camera, whereas for the second one, I played around a little in PP.

I think, #2 works better here...

    Does this look any better?
