Rachael Katz
I have given some thought to sending a Alpha-700 to Rachael Katz for a split focus screen. Just wondering if anyone had any information on them?

I think Don had this done. I miss it for MF. When mt Quantary lens broke I tried to use MF and it was very hard to focus.

Ordered a Katz Eye and installed it in my D40 a couple years ago... not a huge fan. Somewhat helpful, but I find the AF confirmation light more helpful and I find the Katz Eye messes up the metering occasionally.

The only reason I ask is the STF Lens. With my Maxxum 9, 9Ti and Alpha 900 the viewfinder is large and bright enough to distinguish out of focus but on the 7 in low light its very hard to see accurate focus at distance. I just thought it would be a good backup.

Hey e dawg,
From the emails I have had with Rachael this is not anything like the replacing a focus screen on the Minolta 9’s. The SI Screen in the Sony Camera has to be altered so the Split Screen can be inserted and work at its brightest potential. I have no idea if I am just being sold some sales pitch but I do know for a fact that the Minolta Auto Focus is a bit unique. Only two manufactures use this. Minolta now (Sony) and Hasselblad have the same foundation in AutoFoucs technology. Only because Minolta sold the technology to Hasselblad.

Katz no longer offers service for any of the Sony Cameras.

Oh geez ... that's not good. Guess they did not get enough response to make it worth their time.
Makes my jewel worth a bit more, I suspect.
