Here is the first of the native orchids that bloom on the range. This is Calapogon Barbatos. It is actually only about 1 inch.

A bit soft, you can thank the f/22 aperture for that (refraction), why did you use such a small aperture? Does it have something to do with the extention tube? (I'm not too familiar with those, but know taht they do affect SSS, aperture, and AF. Try turning SSS off and use a larger aperture.

It's a beautiful flower. The colors are nice.

I guess I am puzzled with the use of a MACRO Tube. You normally use those on non-MACRO lenses. The TAMRON SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di is a very good MACRO lens without anything extra.

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Well to enhance magnification I guess since it was only an inch?

Last from my early spring wildflower trip this weekend. A few more not posted on POTD on my flickr.

actully, most macro photographers i know use them with a macro lens. its in order to get larger than 1:1 magnificaton for a small subject. you somtimes need tubes if you want to fill the frame.

eg: this image is uncropped, as shot. if i wasnt using a tube, i;d have to cut it back significantly to get this sort of framing. its much more difficult to nail focus though. this one is off by about half a mm. his shoulders are perfect but his eyes are ever so slightly just OOF.

another great shot from you dragon. i'm really enjoying your macro stuff. i always take a small set of scissors with me and sometimes do a little pruning to remove distractions in field so i dont have to remove in post.

Using the tube to bring it in closer it is not that big, and the large depth of field for the depth and details since I have the tube on.
Today I am going back out to take more, the wind picked up yesterday and ended the session early.

Thanks, yeah I did some minor pruning I suppose but with my own hands. I like the idea of keeping scissors!
