Now there is a grim reminder of the future ....

A Photographer Is Forever
Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Birds are Tough
That's a pretty good capture Frank. I've found that birds tend to be uncooperative, kind of like small children, when it comes to being photographed.
This is one of the better bird shots I was able to get, and it truly was a right time, right place shot

Nice capture. I like shooting birds. Some of them stay still long enough to get a shot. It is the little ones that don't stay still. I have been trying to get a good shot of a Kingfisher for a while. This was shot hand held from my car at about 50 yards away. Here is the original before I cropped it.
Thanks

Frank, I've seen your recent bird shots and I'm sure she's underage.
Joking aside, I think you do quite well considering the kit you have to work with.
The A100 was a good first effort from Sony but:-
the motor lacks the torque of the later A200 and A700.
It suffers from significant shutter lag which is bad news for shooting small birds and in particular BIF.
The AF is not as sensitive as the later models particularly the A700.
As for the Tamron, .... well, you know.

Maybe one day you'll come across a nice used A700.
