well guys.....as much as i love the Minolta 28-135mm for it's sharpness.....it's serious limitation is MFD.
even though the minimum MFD is 5ft, 5ft only gives you AF confirmation....you really need 6ft or more for a sharp shot.
anyway i was about 7ft away on this one and i had my Sigma flash with me and sun from the skylight above.
her eyes are naturally blue, i just made it pop a little with the blue luminance slider in LR2.3
as for the soft glow in her skin.....i think that is cause she is almost 8 months pregnant. her skin seems to be glowing much more these past few weeks.

So I guess you used direct fill flash, because no harsh sunlight is visible.

yeah the flash was direct but the sun wasn't spilling in. we were in a butterfly conservatorium so there was very little direct sunlight coming trough from the skylight. lost of plants and such blocking most of the light.

It is a very nice photo Elisha. Great lighting, and it really did make the eyes pop.

Very, very nice shot. How did you do it? Which lens did you use?

are you referring to the bird or the portrait?
both were shot with the 28-135mm.
surprisingly the bird was calm enough although i could not maneuver my position to get a clear shot without that little branch getting in the way!

I think the portrait looks lovely, apart from the eyes!!! They look to be clearly digitally enhanced, in my opinion. I know that they have been altered but I think they've been altered to the extent that it detracts away from the balance of the rest of the shot.
Was the bird altered too? It just doesn't look 'real' in my opinion.
