Try using Aperture Mode set Iso to 200. I shoot most of my shots at f/8 and adjust from there.

I always have the camera on Aperture mode but the ISO setting was set to auto and i totally forgot to even check what it was at. And if i went anything higher then f2.8 then the shutter speed would have been to low for a handheld shot. Ill try again tomorrow night at iso 200 and a higher aperture.

I don't think Frank realised you were at 1/6th sec handheld.
Any lower than that and you need a tripod (other support) or the camera shake will be very obvious.
In any case, by all accounts, the SLT A33 is pretty capable at iso1600.
I don't see any seriously distracting noise in your image.

Thats cos you have an a100.
A33 seems to control noise quite nicely.

I guess it is beaten into my head that 800 Iso and up is bad for me. I still would try to shoot as low of an Iso as the image will allow. Peter did make a good point which I did miss.

shoot the fire at a fast speed and you'll get some bizzare flame pics......kind of like water drops
