So late this evening I took a walk in the backyard looking for a wood pecker I have been hearing but not seeing for days now! No woodpecker but this guy and a few dozen of his buddies were doing some feeding. To much with the onboard flash eh.

Market day in town, so took a walk in nearby protected (nature) area.

It hosted lots of these (purple, actually) flowers. Spot metering on one of them made the picture slightly underexposed overall- to a rather pleasing effect, or so it would seem judging by how especially newspaper photographers love to raise color saturation and contrast and dim the brigthness a little. Well, rant aside, I still like it : )

    Photo is unedited besides resize.

Yeah, I like the underexposure and depth of field. It creates a darker mood for the picture, along with the dead log and vines, and a nice contrast to the in focus and bright new flowers. Very nice work.

this is a really strong image. i think its brilliant.

personally, i think there's a little too much on the left of frame and it could do with a tiny bump up in exposure. but your dof, subject and composition is quite simply...superb. i think its the strongest image ever posted in the sony forum. period.

Thanks very much all. They don't usually turn out like that, and especially not when I really make an effort

Nice clown Elisha, but especially the flowers in your previous picture. Is the 'shaded corners' thing post processed, or in the shot, and in any case how? I've occasionally gotten it in shots, but never on purpose, and haven't really tried to work out what causes them.

Bup underexposed really works very well on your shot, it has a 'feel' to it, the log running through it gives a nice look also, very neat shot.
