I whole-heartedly agree with your estimation of the 28-300 Di. The best part of that lens is its compact quality ... but, that is where it ends. It was designed before the 18-200 Di-II ... which is an improvement ... but, the real working design is the 18-250 Di-II, hands-down. If you get a chance, check one out and BE AMAZED at the improved capability.

I've got nine "old" Minolta lenses and none of them suffer from front/back focus.

Eventually, none of mine will, either. Unfortunately, I am not alone with these issues. On other forum boards, I have become aware of many users of the 28mm and 24 mm complaining of the same issue.
