This is a repeat of a survey that considered Full Frame sensor lenses, but these lenses can also be used quite nicely on APS-C sensors.

I got a 75-300 with my A300 for basically nothing. For now it's a fun lens to have for some mondo zoom. I think the image quality is even a little better than the kit lens, but about a week in and I'm already really looking forward to finding some new glass.

I got it with my a300 for nothing too and sold it because the quality is about as good as the kit lens (not very great). I got the Tamron 70-300mm as a replacement
It's the Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2
Make sure it's the newer "Di" digital version. It's about ~$130-$150ish.
It's significantly better than the Sony 75-300mm and it's a good deal cheaper as you pointed out. Many of us here have this Tamron lens and love it. For many of us, it was a second lens (after the kit!).
From your list, I have the 24-70. I am looking at the 70-200, 16-35, and either the 70-300 or 70-400, but not sure about the system enough to invest in more lenses at this time.
Canon and Nikon are definitely looking over their shoulder, as SONY continues to nibble away at their marketshare. Admittedly, it's a big field ... but big enough for this economy? We can only hope ... things are looking grim on Wall Street.
Another question: How much glass is too much?
I guess when I can finally reach in my bag and find a adequate "solution", everytime! Then, I will cry "uncle." LOL
