does anyone know if this program really works or not?
http://astrojargon.net/40dshuttercount.aspx
comes up with 2189 on my nused 40d!!!!!! and i took a pic and it then said 2190. i hate to get excited since last time i tried one of these i was wrong, but so far it goes up one every time i take a picture.
can any of you with a new camera test it and compare to what you know you've taken?
his site says it should work with all digic 3 and 4 cameras. iunno.
p.s. it's virus free as scanned by AVG

Maybe someone who bought their 40D NEW and doesn't reset actuations could DL it and try it to see if it has the same number as their current file #.

or that gulliver guy with the new 50d maybe. would also be curious if it is affected by clearing settings or resetting the count.
hmmmmm, oddly enough the shutter actuations are very similar to my post count here.

Wish I could help, but I don't use EOS Utility and I can't find my CD.

Just ran it on mine, tells me 2505. The last image file i have is 2479 with no resets. Oh, and it was a new camera, I think I may have done some remote shooting without it saving to card, but i don't really remember.
There was a thread on POTN about this and appears to be real...

That's pretty cool if its true; I didn't think there was anyway to reliably tell the shutter count of a non-1 series Canon camera.
So how are you liking the 40D Adam?

I've been playing with these hex editors for a while and I am finding that it doesnt work accurately. I sold my 30D thinking it had 50,000 actuations when it didn't really have it. I tried on my 40D and 1D, the methods I used said it was roughly between 40,000 and 60,000 for the two cameras, while CanCount told me the 1D was at 33,000. I spent about an hour of my time playing with it, but no luck
