70-200 soccer shots
Soccer in the dark, not the best lighting, four light towers, football field has six. Took Don's advice and set camera to M mode, spot focus, f 2.8 DRO - off SSS - off, standard color, contrast +1, sharpness +3 no EV, WB mostly on auto, and some at 4000K. ISO 1000 / 1600 had to bump up to 1600 once it was fully dark, shutter started at 500 had to keep slowing down 400 - 320 -250 to try and keep shots "light" enough, would like to stay at 320 or higher to "stop" the action. I also moved to multiple locations around the field, and can see effects of light "cycles". also lens had a hoya hmc super multi coated UV filter on. So here we go!!

The game continues
game start at 7 P.M. darkness moves in quick. most of these pics. are of course large crops, I need to work on waiting for the action to fill the shot. some have also had simple "auto correction" run from the Sony software. I would like to try and get the noise down in some of the shots with out PP some more fine tunning is in order, as well as skill development of course
Thursday we play on a football field that will be "less badly" lighted. also some shots are with onboard flash used.

Some really great shots there! The 2.8 has really served you well in freezing the action and maintaining a decent ISO. The ones on your flickr page have the EXIF intact
Just curious, what settings was this one at?

Great series of images. The lens looks like it is getting the job done. With alot of help on your part to stay on top of the settings. The 70-300 would have failed for sure. My grandson has a game this weekend it is at noon so I shouldn't have a hard time. Keep up the good work.
Frank
P.S. I didn't know soccer was a contact sport. These girls play there harts out.

Frank I tell you what high school age girls play far more "physical" than the guys do, lots of contact, I have cringed on the sidelines many a time! the 70-300 will be great during the day, it is a very good lens, i will still use mine, until it starts getting dusky out.

Sean ... compared to the 70-300 or 80-400 ... what do you YOU think? Is the 70-200mm f/2.8 delivering the goods ... because anything better is going to cost REAL money and will be fixed PRIME!!!

Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.
