Stacked moon
Don's HDR shot of the moon is cool so I thought I would give this a go, actually had these images before his . It's multiple images 27 stacked in registax. First time I used it and it seems like a decent little program. But it has a ton of buttons and is very intimidating (10x more than photoshop, which I love, LOL). I just kept pressing buttons till I came up with this.

Tamron 70-300/4-5.6 at various exposures.... at 300mm of course
Bigger (blurrier, cropped somewhat): http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3182/...2499f95b_o.jpg
And this was from the night before as hurricane ike left us a clear night! 15 frame pano

I like the second one ... interesting color opportuities with that reflection ... almost sun dog like.

Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Very nice work dr4gon! I love the color of the moon in those shots!!

That last shot looks great, dr4gon. Is that stacked focus? How do you do it with the moon? What were your settings? What pp did you use?

thanks, the stack came out better than the originals since it was at 300mm, but I found with that lens, 300mm isn't all that sharp, so the second is at 180mm, non stacked.
Here's the exif for the moon from last night:
Camera Make: SONY
Camera Model: DSLR-A300
Image Date: 2008:09:18 23:15:20
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 180.0mm (35mm equivalent: 270mm)
Exposure Time: 0.0063 s (1/160)
Aperture: f/7.1
ISO equiv: 100
Hardly any PP, just a tad bit of sharpening (USM).

180mm, good idea. Looks like that IS is really working out for you.

Yup although at 1/100 it's not that hard to HH, lol...
I did remember seeing these nice shots at POTN from this guy in India with a Canon 70-300 IS lens (a like $800 lens if I remember correctly) and they were amazing! If I had the Sony 70-300 G 4-5.6, I'm sure it would be much better!
