Fuji Fine Pix S5100 VS Olympus C-765 OR ??

Trying to decide what to get. I am totally new to digital photography.

In 35mm photography over 20 years I have had Canon, Minolta, Nikon with the Nikon F3 being my favorite.

Unfortunately I am working with a very tight budget. Trying to think which
will be the best choice in the 4 mp 250.00-325.00 range.

Any ideas??

Take a look at the following digital camera. I have arranged them moving from the lowest cost to the highest cost, but still trying to stay within your budget.

Kodak DX-7440
Fuji E-510
Fuji E-550 (there is a rebate on this camera right now)
Nikon CP 5200
Canon A-85
Canon A-95
Sony P-150

Judging from your short list of possibles, you are wanting big zoom. Besides those two you mentioned, take a look at the slightly less expensive Minolta Z2. It has 4mp, 10x, has A/P priority and manual modes, and uses AA's.

If you could do with 0.8mp less (no reason why you shouldn't) you definitely need to check out the Panasonic FZ3, which has a fast 12x zoom with image stabilisation, A/P/M modes, and focus-assist light, all in a compact but not too small package.

Of your two choices - I have cameras from both makers, so it would be hard for me to choose. However, I would most likely go with the slightly smaller Oly, just for the size. On the other hand, I would pick the FZ3 over either of your two choices....
