Silly question about Sony Alpha family of cameras

I know this sounds stupid, but do all Sony Alpha family cameras use the same flash cards to store pictures? (e.g., Memory Stick and Compact Flash only)

Do any of these cameras use SD or SDHC?

    A100, A200, A300, A350, and the A700 ALL use Compact Flash

The A700 can use Compact Flash and Memory Stick Pros.

    Not a stupid question!

That should help answer your questions!

Also make sure you buy quality name brand cards and sticks, lots of bootlegs out there!
also buy at least the next size bigger then you think you will need. and go with "fast' cards. You don't have to use extreme IV, or udma's unless you want to or really need the extra fast buffer and write speeds, have to make sure you have a reader for the faster cards also, or a fairly new computer. I think the 4 and 8 Gb extreme III C.F. by Sandisk work fine, the only memeory stick pro duo I have used are the Sony name brand in 2Gb.

I would stick with either Sandisk or Lexar (those are pretty much the two I trust). You'll find other good ones out there but their quality control isn't that great. Read up on reviews like at Amazon or Newegg to get an idea of the failure/lemon rate. Some cards are DOA, others die a bit later, and some "format themselves...." which is definitely NOT good!

To start, I used a 4GB Etreme III Sandisk CF card and soon upgraded to 2 more 8GB Extreme III Cards when they were on sale (~$25/each, awesome price!). Sandisk does have some DOAs but their quality control is pretty good. Lexar on the other hand are top notch fast 300x UDMA cards. I have not heard of any dead or dying Lexars. I chose the middle of the higher end of the road I guess you could say because I do not want to take any chances. I've come too far to lose anything!

Adorama, limit 3, at 3 it was like $23 each shipped, but I didn't feel the need to get 24GB since on one charge, I can get maybe 1000shots TOPS. So now that I have enough for 1.5 batter charges.... well I should probably buy another battery eh? OH THE VICIOUS CYCLE!!!!

It is really handy to have 2 batteries, at soccer games I am shooting 100 - 150 shots each game J.V. and varsity so around 250 - 300 give or take, as i am learning and playing with all the settings and buttons, lots of AF action going on, burst shooting, and good old SSS ON I run a battery down to about 25 - 30% 2 soccer games a week, a football game, only shooting like 30 - 50 shots at football right now, and sometimes a Saturday soccer game also, the 2 batteries are really handy, someday a backup 3rd. I think

I don't do much sports, but with astrophotography being out in the field, in the middle of nowhere doing long exposures (which take a forever to compile or computer or whatever it's doign) drains a lot of juice.

One of the accessories I was thinking about, if and when I have enough money to make a move to D-SLR, would be geotagging, like ATP's GPS Photofinder.

Pretty cool! But don't let that hold you back! You can easily click on a map of where the pictures were taken when uploading to flickr!
