Is it Calumet? Or are you keeping it a secret so we don't storm the place! (We're all broke right now )
I wish I had a Sony type retailer near me. All I got are Wolf's and this one local place I found that sells Nikon and Canon (used to do Sony, but didn't like dealing with them). There are also a few other places a bit further, but looking online, they only have nikon or canon...
Actually I did see a commercial on TV for this one place... but there stuff is list price and a lot is "call for the price." They might have some used stuff.... I guess it's worthwhile giving them a call, just kind of far, and I don't like paying for tax either.

Trio deal
Okay, if I order three of them, do I have a guaranty from you guys ... you buy 'em? They might be $749, each, plus tax. I have to front the cash. The place is NOT SONY ... heck, they don't have a SONY piece of glass in the place. LOL This is "special order", SONY-mount.
Actually, it is kind of weird ... you could buy three of these TAMRON 70-200mm f/2.8 for what they were charging for just one SONY 70-200mm f/2.8 G SSM, last year.
There are days I just hate these manufacturers. Honestly, how stupid is this? I have to spend all sorts of extra money, because they JUST cannot get their act together. Man, if it were my company, I would be so embarrassed.

The SONY 70-200/2.8 G was $749 last year? That's OUTRAGEOUSLY CHEAP! It's a $1000 more now..... what gives?
Nah, I'll have to pass since I have no money and no need for a fast zoom right now . Thanks for the generous offer.

The SONY 70-200mm f/2.8 G SSM was never $749, as far as I ever saw. Most "G" lenses are well in excess of $1000.
The price SONY originally charged, when they re-released it from the Minolta buy-out, was $2399!
They then lowered the price to $1799 ... and it has been stuck there, ever since. The original Minolta price (2005) was also $1799, when it was being sold ... so really, there has been no price change ... just someone in marketing's idea of screwing around with the initial crowd of "Minolta-dedicated." A lot of Minolta buyers were left scratching their heads and refusing to pony up another $600 for no advancement in the glass, other than the SONY-badge slapped on the side of it.
Some of this stuff makes no sense to me ... and seems to delay the inevitable.

Speaking of strange.......70-200's in the UK are mostly out of stock, dealers are taking back orders. The lens was at major dealers in Germany, but is now OOS with NO restock date available?? This from other postings at other forums, and some web searching. Also had my cousin in Belfast make a few calls, couple of shops got a couple of the lenses and are taking orders for the rest, expect them "anytime" Someone claims on another site that they were told by a UK retailer that Sony is not at this time producing A700's and MAY discontinue production! also that the A700 will NOT be available any longer for the UK market, there is NO documentation that I can find to support those claims. Rumors of the A800??

Photokina starts next week ... and I am pretty sure SONY has some rather important news. Guess we shall see, huh?
