Cool An image quality comparison ...

It's always fun (yeah ... this is definitely a relative statement) to measure your glass from one lens to another, just to see the quality changes involved. I figure since I was doing all these filter checks ... why not? Yes, I even switched cameras, too.

    Target Distance: 10-feet

In this case, I went from:

    1) A100 w/ "my standard" grab & go lens (TAMRON AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.5 XR Di-II LD)
    Name: 135mm 18-250 f63 no filter.jpg

    EXIF: 135mm - f/6.3 - 1/125th - ISO-400 - Auto

    2) A700 w/ "my standard" grab & go lens (TAMRON AF 18-250mm f/3.5-6.5 XR Di-II LD)
    Name: 135mm 18-250 f63 no filter A700.jpg

    EXIF: 135mm - f/6.3 - 1/125th - ISO-400 - Manual

    3) A100 w/ TAMRON AF 70-300 f/4-5.6 LD

    EXIF: 135mm - f/4 - 1/125th - ISO-400 - Auto
(I have to admit, the chroma on this ... well, it kind of stunned me)

(Sadly, these two are kind of frightening. Focus is tragically soft.)

All use pop-up flash and no editing, at all. This is a 100% crop straight JPEG from the camera's sensor. Basically, what you would get just putting the camera up and shooting. A simple comparison.

How about that 18-250mm, huh? Obviously, it's no PRIME ... but, not too bad for a utility lens. It is the very reason I highly recommend it as the lens to have in your bag.

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.
