Raven I haven't posted anything for a while, just don't seem to have found the time/inspiration lately. Your art filter shots though have spured me into typing at least. I tended to dismiss the art filters as a bit of a gimick before but I think those shots are great. I just can't decide which version I like best, I get a different favourite every time I look at them. Only conclusion I can come to is that my favourite must depend on my mood at the time. If you use a particular art filter on a shot can you change your mind later & apply another when it's viewed on pc just to see the differences, or do you have to take several separate shots?

Flintlock1776 welcome from me to. Interesting you missed the 40-150 lens out of your kit giving you a gap in the mid range. It will depend on what you shoot I guess how much of a problem this will be. I got the shorter range 2 kit lenses & then added the 70-300 later so have quite an overlap in the middle now but as it turns out I rarely use my 40-150 lens at all. So if your shooting preferences are anything like mine I think you've made an excellent choice. Olys kit lenses are very good for their cost. As Raven says swapping the for the 14-54 lens would be a good step up & help to bridge the gap, even better would be the 12-60. For me though the ideal change would be to the Pan/Leica 14-150 lens then I could get rid of both my shorter range lenses. Cost enters this equation unfortunately though & increases significantly with each lens I've mentioned, so for me I'm still at the wishing stage. I look forward to seeing some of the shots you post.

That's a good long exposure jekostas not even a nose twitch - impressive. I guess the artificial light gave it that colour, what colour is she normally? Our rabbit is a bit more manic than that I'd need good light & a fast shutter to get a decent shot. Will post one if I get lucky.

Yeah, I was traveling for 53 days, and I haven't finished going through all those pictures yet, I'll post more soon. This was one of the 150 best I think, maybe not 50 best.

If you shoot RAW you can change or remove art filters any time on your computer. In jpeg you're stuck.

The thing I noticed with Art Filters is that they really don't affect the quality of a photograph. A good photograph usually looks good with or without any of the art filters and the opposite for a bad one. The few times I've tried them I also could never decide which of about five filters was best, which makes me think a shot is good or bad independently of what filter was used.

Basically they're just for fun, but I do like the easy massive but predictable changes they make. I'd never bother if I had to Photoshop them myself. Plus I noticed you can change the contrast, saturation, sharpness, etc. settings with art filters just like normal .

Heh, looking again I realized that I posted the un-color corrected version. Should be correct now.

Exotic depends on where you are. The Chinese consider the United States to be exotic, and always wonder why I'm taking pictures of the things they do everyday .
Thanks. $722 for the camera and both lenses. About time I stepped up from point & shoots!
I also got this to go with it :
Lexar Professional Series 8 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash Memory Card

Interesting, I did not realize you are in China.

My daughter 'rescued' a Chinese exchange student. She was here in the USA and somehow the University's arrangements to get her on her way got all messed up so she stayed with us for a week. I believe she got a kick out of being here especially seeing the deer, turkey, hawks etc. on my land. She never did write back to say thank, oh well. We found it something to do for the sake of peace at her university where they dropped the ball on this kid.

Thanks, yes, I know I don't have the middle range. I'll check out your suggestions on the mid range. I needed the camera as my daughter is graduation and I won't be able to get close enough to take a shot up from the seats in the indoor professional sports arena where they will hold the ceremony. The other lens should be good for the after party shots with all the family.

A tri-pod; camera case and maybe an extra battery and I hope I'll be good to go!

Added: I just ordered this, used, $80 Olympus ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras

    Horned Marsupial Frog

Went to the Atlanta Botanical Garden for the orchid show, but decided that the frogs were my favorite subjects. They had misters running in this display making it a little soft. (f5, 1/180, ISO 400, FL36R w/Lumiquest softbox off camera)

Wow, awesome. Old Shake Rag former resident here, I miss the place (now fancy up as "John's Creek")

Do people usually tell all the camera settings they use for these pictures? Could be handy for newbies like me.

    Thanks!

Flintlock you can get the settings in most images by looking at the exif information. You can either use a separate programme called an exif viewer or just simply do what I do & save the image in my pictures then right click it and look at the properties. In windows picture & fax viewer it is the advanced summary tab that then shows all the data. I'm sure many others will have slicker ways.
