    Thanks for dropping in

Shot with the 70-300 lens in average light. Well cropped & leveled in elements.

    Spring, ha...

The beginning of a snow flurry that turned the ground white again, sigh...

Very good Phil. Too bad that isn't a 500mm lens, you could have zoomed all the way in on the landing bird for a truly spectacular shot.

    Don't you love spring?

I miss my camera, I have discovered that if I use auto ISO and manual focus I can get proper shots. I may try to do that.

Thanks raven, yes it would have been nice to get closer but I'd have got a bit wet. Our local nature reserve has set the nesting platform rather a long way out into the lake. That was at full 300mm (ie 600equivalent) zoom and at least a 50% crop afterwards. How's the E620 coming I'd be keen to know what you think of it when it arrives.

I'm keen to know what I think of it too! Unfortunately due to funding complications in China (I have only cash so can't use the Internet, and it isn't available in my town, or almost anywhere in China yet, and it is about $150 more expensive in China than in the US) I will not be able to get one until I get back home in July. So that leaves me with a variety of Canon point and shoots at my disposal, or else the E-410 with a permanent f/5.6 and 1/500s changing exposure by the ISO. And of course manual focus only. But it does work a little...

I would like to get a fast Konica Hexanon AR lens (preferably 40mm f/1.7 "pancake") to convert, so at least I could control aperture, and focus more easily. In fact if I could do that then being stuck at 1/500s wouldn't be a huge limitation.

She's calling me stupid for taking her picture with a broken camera. Taken with 25mm pancake lens, MF at ISO100 (my only variable for now).

Great picture especially with the limitations. Maybe those restrictions will have you looking at an old range finder or new Olympus Micro-4/3rd's.

I have just been discovering that the limitations actually aren't bad at all. f/5.6 1/500s is ideal for a sunny day in China, given the ability to change between ISO 100 and 400. Only when sunset approaches do I miss the ability to use slower shutter speed. However, even with the 1.2x magnifying cup, I wish it was faster and easier to manually focus my lenses. Though the zoom-in-focus-zoom-out procedure for fine tuning focusing works very well with the 40-150 when I can be bothered to do it. I may post some pictures soon.

I actually like that one. Even though you told us, I still have no idea what I'm looking at.

I just took my newly arrived Canon A610 P&S out today, and decided even at IS0 800, I vastly prefer a malfunctioning E-410 to it at ISO 200. Ugh! I hope the most recent P&S cameras are better...
