That's a great BiF shot Ken. Looks like I'd better get out and try mine. Haven't used the 50-200 on the E-M1 much yet.

Took the OMD E-M1 and 12-40 to the first day of the Atlanta Botanical Garden Orchid Daze. What a great light, fun and flexible setup to use. I had my 4/3 50mm macro, but never even put it on. The 12-40 does well as a close-up lens, certainly better than its full 4/3 12-60 cousin. I really like the quick switch to manual focus with peaking enabled through the lens ring.

Tried out the touch screen for focus even without a tripod it can be useful. Makes it easy to quickly take a few shots of groups of flowers and pick a different subject bloom in each frame. I can see it making focus stacking a lot more appealing. I do wish that I could assign touch on/off to a button as it is deep in the menus (and as a long time Olympus user their menus are almost second nature, but that doesn't mean they are right).

You just touch the icon on the bottom left which toggles from off, focus only or focus/shoot.

Pretty impressive macro performance from that zoom lens, especially in that last shot.

    Rooz,
    Thanks for the tip.

    Phill,
I was quite impressed by the macro results as well.

The touch screen toggle works okay, but I still prefer a separate button. I generally have the LCD on the SCP, not live view. I will just have to remember to disable touch when I exit live view. I would really like it to be able to have three options: on/off/on-live view only. I did notice that I can toggle the WiFi the same way.

not sure why a separate button would be better. i wouldn't waste a button on it personally when its so easy to access.

    Rooz,

I want to be able to Google it while on the SCP, not just the live view display.

The first warm Spring day here in Atlanta. Stepped outside to rake the debris from the Winter and noticed a few crocuses poking up. Guess we will be seeing those Autumn leaves in the post from our southern hemisphrians soon. Meanwhile, I am celebrating the warm weather by heading to Iceland next weekend.
