Well, about 2 weeks ago a pair of red headed woodpeckers (very territorial) apparently ejected the red bellied woodpeckers and their young from the prime nest location. Not too upset as red heads are less common. Hope to see some of them in a few days. Still tough to get a decent shot 60 feet straight up.

Anyone see anything strange about this massive camera flare with the E-M5 and 45mm f/1.8?

    Raven,

The sun rays are nice, but there seems to be some internal reflection on the center.

Is it the lens or a filter on the lens? It's a smart shot whatever it is.

Almost looks like there's an alien person in the middle of the frame! Very cool!

jr_rodriguez for the win! I took the shot last fall and noticed a lot of glare, so I tried to maximize it.

Then a couple weeks ago my brother was telling me about Slender Man, so we added him. Usually he likes trees and fog, but in Nevada he has to hide in solar flare.

By the way, there was no filter. Apparently the E-M5 sensor is pretty shiny and creates a lot of internal reflection with the right lens/circumstances.

It's a very good lens optically, though not as eye-wateringly sharp as the old Olympus 50mm f/2. Probably many people would see that as beneficial. As demonstrated there is the potential for incredible flare with the E-P5 in some circumstances, but it isn't normal. The outside is plastic painted silver, mine acquired ten years of scratches in one year. You may be more gentle, but I was hardly mistreating mine. I think many scratches came from zippers.

so...I shot my first frames ever on an Olympus camera. bought an epl-5, a panny 14mm and the oly 60mm macro. here are a few macros with the sb800 mounted onboard.

my gorgeous xe1 soon to be replaced by the ep-5

initial thoughts after a few hours...
bloody small...freakin small. but surprisingly not too uncomfortable.
how bloody sharp is this thing ? wow
    focus speed is blistering fast
build quality of the body seems very good
build quality of the lens is ok
jpeg quality is excellent, not on par with the Fuji but i'll work on it, (I don't intend to shoot raw with this camera so don't even go there)

    a couple of negatives...
Olympus, similar to Fuji, have absolutely no idea how to do menus. they make no damn sense and look childish, cluttered and very poorly implemented.
the shutter button is ridiculous. the difference between a half press and a full press is just not distinctive enough. I don't like it.
I shot a few mono frames and they aren't in the Fuji ballpark. i'm going to have to work on that jpeg engine to get more out of it. anyone have any tips ?

look forward to getting it on the street over the next few days !
