I just bought a 4 new cell phones for the family so the lens got put on the back burner. I got 3 Dare's they are great I got 8 gig cards so I can store all my images on it and take it with me. Have to have all the toys. I also want the 17-50 also. Then I won't need the 50mm prime.

hmmm.... that's true, but the 50mm primes are <$100 and they are just so highly rated and raved about over at dyxum. Like 4.8+ out of 5.0 for reviews. That's just incredible.
I think it's time for me to upgrade my phone too. I was thinking of the blackberry thunder to replace my pearl. But perhaps that can wait lol....
And when (if) I ever go on vacation then I'll need a travel tripod (thinking the slik mini travel tripod, folds to 14") and maybe an 18-250mm vacation lens.
come to think of it.....Don's got all these things!

This was my first camera Minolta SRT 201 35mm Film Camera. I gave it to my daughter about two tears ago and I think her husband threw it out. I had two lens a flash and an auto winder. I am going to see if she can find it. Just as a keep sake.

You've been with Minolta for a while!! My first pretty much real camera was a olympus 1.3MP p&s, then I upgraded to my 5mp sony p100 p&s, and now I'm sitting on my a300 . So I'm brand new to amateur photography and it's been very fun (and a bit expensive thus far). My camera with the kit lens and 75-300mm Sony SAL was $599+tax at circuit city. So that makes my camera $~400 with the kit lens. So it's a relatively cheap camera considering my 2 newest lenses are more expensive. I have to say I didn't see this coming lol.

When I got my A100 i didn't know the 700 was coming out. I am happy with it. I might upgrade later but I still don't know my way around this one yet. I will see what comes up in about 6 months. I will pass this one down to my son. He will only get my kit lens though. LOL

LOL, well everyone's gotta start somewhere!
I think I'm set camerawise for another 3 years (3 year accidental warranty, lol) and will upgrade to a fullframe camera then. But that's too far in the future to tell, not sure how I will get my way around it either....

Tamron all the way!
Like I said the 17-50 seems to be a outstanding lens. Everything I have read and researched indicates that a minolta AF 50mm prime 1.7 is THE prime lens for the alpha cameras, as I mentioned before I don't know if it is part full frame preperation, or some "glass panic" but used 50mm 1.7's are going for like 120.00 to 150.00 on ebay, and that is about a 10 - 12 percent increase in the last 6 weeks, and 10 - 12 months ago they were like $65.00 The color reproduction is said to be better on the 1.7 then the 2.1. I have one one the way for $100.00 as a favor to me.
I really "want" the 200-500mm i think it will be fun to use, but I could really use the new but not yet here 80-200 or 70-200mm can never remember 2.8 for sports shooting as the light goes down. who knows when we will be able to get it though. The 90mm is also on the short list also.
maybe we need to work this out, think we can get any kind of discount from Tamron if one of us buys in threes? LOL but then the shipping kills us. Have to save your change guys and don't wait to long, who knows what Tamron's will {go away} next

I would just go to Adorama in NY. That is where I got my 70-300 Tamron.

The SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO is a really good lens, once it is "tuned up." It shoots just as well as the 17-50mm f/2.8 does, but if you have any aspirations of buying a SONY α900 (Full Frame) ... that's the lens I would buy, instead of the 17-50mm f/2.8 Di-II. Is it on par with a CZ 24-70mm f/2.8? Hey, at $329 ... I dare Carl Zeiss to certify anything even close to that price. Their 24-70 is easily $1650. LOL
Would you guys tell if you come across a fountain of change that allows you to buy such equipment? I am desperately looking for it, myself.

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.
