This pilot was waiting for take off, on the runway, and he parked over a Blue Taxi point patch ... the sun was so intense, it reflected off the plane's paint job ... and customized it.

I slowed this shot way down to stop freezing the prop ... and get that revving drama.
And then this bird was developed in the 1960's, during the "VietNam Conflict", as a two-man side-by-side Navy-launcher Bomber ... then they modified it into a 4-man Navy Electronic jammer aircraft, to disable missile radars BEFORE the bomb group got in there ... much like the EF-111 "Sparkvark" in the Air Force.

And, although this was not in focus when I took it ... the atmospheric flight performance effects were awesome looking ... so I posterized it! Yeah!

Yeah, this pilot was scanning the crowd, too. LOL Nothing like a front row seat ... unless your lens is too long.
This particular and rare P-38 has a history unlike any other and you would be amazed at how she came to fly ... again. Like a Phoenix-bird made from Ice, she again soars the skies.

Don these are just beautiful.
Was this one also at 200mm (I'm thinking perhaps maybe closer to 300mm).
And how far away did you have to get shooting this one since you said you were close enough to have a conversation (assuming you had your 200-500mm still on?)

There was a grass taxi strip between us and the pilot, who had the Raptor on the "paved" taxiway ... maybe 20 yards. You know, it was actually kind of quiet, as he was going by, as the F-22 was shut down ... and the occasional outbound members took off.
I tell ya, that 200-500mm gets everyone's attention. It was weird not to see another TAMRON out there. Saw lots of Canon long lenses ... and the rather "strained looks" on those trying to hoist them for a shot. They may have gotten one shot for the ten of mine, as the jet streaked here and there.
You pick your poison, I guess. This is a "birding lens" for good reason! LOL Plus, this is all out of my pocket ... so, I'm not complaining. I plan to keep it cheap as possible and still get a decent shot.
I guess you could say I foiund a setting that I liked, out there, because most of my shots were:

The show was a little different than last year. In 2007, the airshow kind of took place all afternoon. But, because there were no fly-by's this year (B-1, B-2, C-17 demo) ... and gas is much more expensive, the show started around 3:15PM ... which meant a lot of standing around until the show, considering we got there at 10:00 AM!
I also had noticed the A100 acting up when it got hot, from being out in the sun. We actually lost shots on the CF because of it. They were there, right after being taken and reviewed ... and then ... when we went to look at them a few minutes later ... they were just just gone, like they had never been taken. The previous shots were there, but not the ones where the camera actually got warm, in the sun. It happened several times and I finally "rebooted" the camera (power removal) and shoved another CF into it. It was the weirdest thing. I am reluctant, now, to use it as a "backup." Of course, with the A900 coming ... the A700 will be its backup. I may just retire the A100 or give it to my brother (he actually found the problem, so it is no surprise  ).
He wants that 18-250, too ... hmmm. And, he also had his eyes on that Tokina 80-400mm he had mounted. Good taste in lenses ... LOL

Thats not good to hear, for me anyway. I haven't had any problems and I have taken it to the beach several times this year. I need to start saving for the new camera. Not sure which one yet.

You sure it wasn't a problem with the CF cards. Many other brands with the exception of Sandisk or Lexar seem to have a higher failure rate than these two. I actually haven't heard of a DOA Lexar card (300x UDMA anyway). I opted for the slgihtly cheaper Sandisk as I trust their quality. I recently picked up 2 more 8GB for $25 each at Adorama after rebate. It beat the $75 Lexar UDMA 300x 8GB card I was eying. I could've gotten 3 for that price!
Thanks for adding in all the exif  I'm nosy like that (I never miss the chance to peek at sparkie's EXIF)  .
That raptor is such a beast! It's definitely one hell of a bird lens!
Speaking of the canonites down at POTN it looks like they had a good time too, I half expected to see that plane coming straight at the guy with that monster zoom lens, LOL.

 They need clearance in the tower!
Well, my brother, in snapping candids, got this bunch of Canonites hanging out in one of the "Canon Towers."
Apparently Canon was renting lens to those who wanted to use them, as long as you plunked down your credit card. LOL So, what's new? I do that most of the time, anyway, and get stuck with the glass, because I do not want to bring it back, afterwards.
Can you imagine a $7500 EF 500mm f/4 IS USM? Holy CW! There's a back-breaker.
Hey, the guy with the Canon pocket P&S made me laugh! There's always one! The tower should really get him closer ...
Anyway, you can be sure they would have preferred to be atop this brand new CONTROL TOWER!
Unfortunately, on Saturday, very little for it to do, because not much was airborne, until 3:15PM ... except for this sky-icon:
which requires relatively little petrol fuel, but a lot of Helium gas to operate and stay aloft.
