They are nice pictures, just a bit overexposed I think. My EXIF tells me the following:

    Camera Make: SONY
    Camera Model: DSLR-A100
    Image Date: 2008:07:28 03:04:47
    Flash Used: No
    Focal Length: 300.0mm (35mm equivalent: 450mm)
    Exposure Time: 0.0063 s (1/160)
    Aperture: f/8.0
    ISO equiv: 100
    White Balance: Auto
    Metering Mode: Matrix
    Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
Not sure which metering mode is matrix (multi segmented probably), I think spot metering would have been best, I'm sure someone (don?) will correct me if I'm wrong . The pictures seem a bit washed out.

Here's my PP attempt if you don't mind. I just messed with the curves in photoshop and saturation.

I've been using this technique to enhance my own images and am just surprised by a simple adjustment in channels. I couldn't resist doing the tucan .

I read about these simple things in a book by Scott Kelby (I enjoy his writing and lame jokes) called Scott Kelby's 7 point system for Adobe Photoshop CS3. I've only gotten through lesson 1 and so far it's great. You really can take an image like the samples on Amazon and make them that much better!

I first found his stuff by searching Amazon and found the ebooks to read at my local library online.
