    Pixel Peeping my 35mm 1.4

So I've been wondering lately if my 35mm is up to snuff. After looking closely at my 85mm and 200mm shots wide open I've been wondering if my 35mm could be sharper. All shots edited from RAW in DPP with no adjustments and 0 sharpening.

    First a portrait.

    ISO 100 F 1.4 SS 1/500

I had a cheap circular polarizer on.

    ISO 100 F 1.4 SS 1250

This was taken at Cafe Deckuf

    ISO 3200 F 1.4 SS 125

and finally a box shot I think this is the worst example out of the bunch! I was happy with the lens until I took the picture of the box!

    ISO 400 F1.4 SS 200 with flash.

I've been really happy with mine even though it sucks big time taking pictures of boxes! maybe I'll send mine in to Canon one day?!?

It's not exactly the sharpest lens wide open... all of your shots are at f/1.4. What do they look like at f/1.8- f/2.8?

I don't take many f/1.4 shots with my 50mm because I know they won't be as sharp as I'd like.

Filter was only on for that one shot. They do get better when stopped down.

When box shooting to gets really sharp at F4

It's still under warranty, I'm going to be around the Canon service centre next week. I'm going to see if they can have a look at it for me. I'll call them today.

    I would Nick - that looks a little soft to me. For comparison, here's a 100% crop form my 50 @ f/1.4....

I'm excited, I've never really had a big problem with the 35mm because of the colour and contrast but if I can make it even better that's great!

guys - I don't think the 50 1.4 is a fair comparison - Canon's L lenses (as compared to their standard lenses) are usually much sharper (and better color and contrast) wide open. Plus the 35 1.4 L is over 3X the price of the 50 1.4, so it's not unreasonable to expect better wide open performance. I'd definitely send it in Nick - nothing to lose on that. (Even if it weren't under warranty I'd send it in.)
