    Glass

We went to the Chihuly exhibit at the De Young museum this morning. He creates some astounding glass art. I had the 70-300 IS with me, and while the focal length was a little much (that place was crowded!), the IS was a life saver--no flash allowed and it was a very dark gallery.

Wow Adam, those colors are great! My favorites are everything from part 1, the last couple from part 2 and the first couple from part 3. So yeah, that's almost all of them.

I have to repeat Lukas, wow! These are amazing. I love #2 and 4. I would have thought you worked on these in a studio for hours, not shot them in a crowded museum with no flash or tripod!

Thanks, guys. Some of the pieces were really large (>10 feet tall!), and some were huge installations of many many smaller pieces. I didn't even bother trying to capture entire pieces. I was struck by the colors and forms, so I took detail shots as if they were flowers.

Most were at ISO 800 or 1600, and shutter speeds of 1/4 to 1/30. (IS: the coolest thing since sliced bread.)

Not a lot of processing. All were taken in RAW, and the exposure was bumped up a bit on many of them. All had Neat Image run in moderate amounts, and small curves adjustments for added contrast, and then some Smart Sharpening. On a few I had to burn or clone out small blow-outs from reflected gallery lights, but overall, they were all lit really well.

This guy's art is simply stunning. Here's his site: http://www.chihuly.com/
Lukas, the exhibit's at the De Young in Golden Gate Park through Sept. 28th, so if you get up to SF, I highly recommend it.

Nice shots! Funny, I was just at the DeYoung the middle of last week, but I didn't have my camera with me.

Scrolling down this thread and watching the pictures fly by is like going on some kind of perverted, color infused joy ride.
