Iīm thinking to buy a canon in these days, I was between the a720is and a650is, however most likely to be the a650is because of its very useful swivel lcd and 4 batteries.
But Iīm posting this because all these problems regarding the "e18" error has been worrying me since I discovered it yesterday just right before when I was going to purchase on amazon.
Iīve also heard that it happens mostly in all canon axxx series.

Do you think that because of this famous and sometimes fatal error e18, I should refrain from buying this camera (a650is canon) and move to another brand?? Or perhaps has been solved in newer cameras like this one? The a650is is an expensive camera and I wouldnīt want to spend this much if thereīs something wrong with this camera or canon brand.

I just found out this link about the a650is and how to disassemble it. I donīt know it this is good or bad signal.

Obviously you can't read. This type of problem can happen to ANY camera. Not just Canon cameras.

You might want to take it down just a notch - he's already stated that English isn't his first language and I wouldn't blame him/her for not going through this whole thread.

And I already replied saying the same thing, but more gently.

David...you know I abhor stupidity! It's a visceral reaction. And, I'm sorry, but I most strongly disagree...people should read the whole thread before they go off furthering this salacious mis-information. But...o.k., I'll try to be nicer...

And it happens on all cameras, made by all companies, under various different names. The question is "does it happen more often on Canon's then on any other camera?" So far, the answer is no, it doesn't.

    Canon S2is E18 error code

No myth... just happened to me. Lens is stuck, no restart/replace battery solution. It is DEAD.
