    Question Calling all experts, buying new camera

    Hi,

    I'm new in the forum.

    I presently received a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-H1, as a gift, couple years ago.

    I am ready to upgrade to DSLR.

    I need your suggestions. I'm open.

    Budget

    $1000

    Size

    Not too heavy, I will bring it on trips

    Features

    * What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)


    * How important is “image quality” to you?

    10 - I have a food blog and need excellent quality images.


    General Usage

    -I shoot food photography
    -sports photography
    -outside pictures when I travel
    -inside (like churches etc on travel)
    -beach
    -also family gatherings pictures etc.
    * Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?

    Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?-for sports like volleyball, hockey

    -in buildings when visiting

    Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
    yes

    Miscellaneous

    Are there particular brands you like or hate?not really

    Are there particular models you already have in mind?
    no, need imput

    (If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features?
    (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
    -would be nice to have all of these features

    IMO, the most full-featured small, lighweight DSLR for the money, period.

    agree with JTL. the xsi seems to be a pearler without peer in that category.
    although...given the title of this thread not sure what JTL doing in here.

    Hey, on a serious note, you've inspired me to get an extension tube (now...you could make a really cheap joke here...but you're too mature for that, right? ). I need to be ready for the bugs and buds this spring!
