Reason: extra info

Reduced to its simplest, sounds like you want a modest price camera with IS? Here is a link to another thread along those lines -

Why do you need a personalized response? Your needs are almost identical to the TS in the other thread. Odds are no one is going to recommend a Sony to you. If you ask for a compact then people are going to recommend a Canon, maybe a Fuji if low light is a priority.

I could tell you but I wouldn't want you to get all pissy if it's the wrong brand

I'm the person in the other thread
I ended up purchasing the Canon A720IS. It takes great-looking shots but it has two problem areas.
1. The flash recycle takes from 5-7 seconds, so don't get it if you are going to be using the flash very often.
2. The colors on the LCD are not that accurate - reds look like red-orange. However, the colors in the actual photos are excellent.
Overall, I recommend it highly.

Can anyone else help me please?
It's my habit to provide links to threads because that quickly gives access to the views of a number of members, not just my opinion. If this habit troubles the moderator on this forum, he needs only say so, and I will cut it out.
Low price cameras get very little respect on the various camera forums. But if you're looking for sheer bang-for-minimum-bucks, I would include Panasonic's LS60 / LS75.

Canon SD1000, SD750, and SD800 are all compact enough to make very handy travel cameras. Pick your comfort level on price, from the SD1000 up to the SD800 is a fair jump (SD750 in between). Dunno about how well they handle redeye. But these are all pretty popular cameras, so that info should be out there somewhere.

You may also want to consider a Panasonic (such as the TZ3), which are very solid and well-built cameras.
