How to shoot the moon

Took these both on the 15th february, with a 400D and a canon 70-200mm F/4L USM lens.
No P&P involved, just cropped.

best results were at f/8...1/160...ISO100
on tripod with 2 second timer

im going to shoot again when theres some shadow to see what detail i can get in there. thanks!

manual mode
f8-f11 depending on your lens
1/125-1/400s this will depend on the phase, (brightness), of the moon
lens fully extended
spot meter
iso100
tripod if you have no VR

this one was taken tonite @ 1/320s f8.

that is taken with the 70-200VR plus a 1.7TC. the one below is taken with the 300mmf4 plus a 1.7TC.

I didn't know we had a moon thread on the go...

I think all the advice that is needed has been given, so I won't repeat it. But I did want to throw in a collage from the eclipse this winter.


The moon got harder and harder to shoot as the eclipse wore on, because it was darker, harder to focus on, and it required longer shutter speeds (but not too long, because its moving).
