"Plus, his example shots always look horrible. Do beginners look at them and actually desire to create similar photographs? I find that exceedingly unlikely."

More than anything else, this is the clincher. He can talk and talk all he likes, but ultimately his photographs bore me. I don't want advice from someone who uses thousands of pounds of equipment to take dull photographs of trees and lakes at sunrise; dull subjects, dull photographs. If his pictures were heartstoppingly divine his opinions would have value. His opinions would be correct, no matter how perverse they are, or unsupported by science and reason. But his pictures are uninteresting, none of them grab me. The impression I get is an unreflective man, woefully unaware of his own limitations, who presumes to instruct other people. Ooh, I'm so angry. Grr. I'm going to have a biscuit.
