I am looking for a portable digital printer for (4 X 6) prints. I own larger Canon printers pixma ip 5000 and ip 4300 and am happy with them and the quality of customer support.

The printer would be used for occasional use when I go out in the boonies. I have googled and have seen comments that the ES1 is poor for printing from the computer and is also slow...but I can't find the comparison with the 740.

I know that the "sublimation" process is supposed to be sensitive to dust...at least that is what the camera shop said where I get my Film SLR accessories and so he said that the ES1 would be better in that it has a door that closes the film and paper unlike the 740 which you have to add the paper into the tray and film separately.

Then he said with the 740 that you have to keep track of the printed pics if you don't do all 36 that come with the film and paper and could lose a few prints b/c the picture is processed in and out a few times adding colours and then finally a transparent finish that preserves the pic.

The 740 is $99 CDN and the ES1 is still $199 but will be lowered b/c of the newer ES2.

I hope that there are users out there that can help comment on the pros and cons of both models and help me make a decision or at least give me things to explore before I spend.

I have definitely made up my mind that it will be either one or the other of these Canons as a portable.
