Yep, good point Darryl, I agree with you. I have already come to terms that I will be paying around $2,000 for my next new camera, and if the new D300 (fx) comes out next year and lets say costs $2,500 - 3,000 I wouldn't think twice about it. Nikon ergonomics and FF sensor at a reachable price ( tops 3,000) will be the final push for me. I am sure there are a lot of people like me that are holding out on the D300 for the hope of a D300fx. Lets hope that Nikon makes our dreams come true

Then again, there is also that certain other website that mentions two more new Nikon camera bodies to be released next year: One of which is basically a D300 full-frame type and another that is basically a D3 with more megapixals. If true, it's possible that both cameras will fill "gaps" in the market.

i'll trade you 2 new FX cameras for 2 new af-s primes.

I started to watch those D3 movies - I didn't know if I should fall asleep or vomitt. Those videos are absolutely horrible.

Interesting reading this big HUHA for D300 from Nikon people as they are jumping to D300. Especially from those who bought a newer D40 or D80 not long ago.

I must admit D300 reads very tempting so it makes a Canon user wonder about this. However I keep cool for the time being waiting for full reviews of D300 and for Canon may be to pull out a 6D FF. I also want to see if it makes sense to upgrade from XTi to 5D or D300 (or 6D IF Canon is smart enough to run quick update of 5D). This is a winter time so less light and more cold, and I am fine waiting a few months at least.

I'd keep the XTi if I was you and wait for the 6D release. I'm going to keep the D40 until a D300-size Nikon full-frame camera drops below $1500 new or in very good used condition. So I'll probably have the D40 for no less than 3 years (maybe 4+). Right now, any $ I budget towards my camera goes to build up my lens collection.

A friend of mine has a Canon EOS 300D that he got back in 2003 that still takes great pictures (which was the cheapest DSLR you could buy new in '03), and he's not planning on upgrading any time soon.
